Rescue Story: In August of 2024, a family in Tennesse contacted Turpentine Creek Wildlife Refuge looking to surrender their privately owned African serial named Zuri. According to the family, the attention and specialized care needed to keep the serval as a pet became too much. While Zuri was affectionate at times, her instinctual behaviors remained. The family worked tirelessly to create a suitable living environment for Zuri and even transformed a bedroom into her own space. They fed her a specialized diet and provided healthcare, however, Zuri’s wild and territorial temperament made it too difficult to care for her. They decided that they needed to find a place to give Zuri the attention, space, and care that she required as a wild animal living in captivity.

More about Zuri: The family brought Zuri to the Refuge, traveling from Tennessee to Northwest Arkansas. Zuri received a full exam and has been adapting to her new life. TCWR has provided Zuri with a large natural habitat to explore, a nutritious diet, regular veterinary care, and weekly changing enrichment for the rest of her life in her new forever home.
