Rescue Story: JJ the Serval found her way to the Refuge with her brother Ce’Ce’ in February 2021, after her previous owner could no longer
provide space for them. The 7-year-old African Serval was sold to her owner by a breeder as a kitten. Like many wild felines who are forced to serve
as “pets,” JJ was declawed on all four paws. She escaped from her Texas home just months before her rescue, and was apparently never the same
afterwards. Because JJ had become more passionate about roaming outside she especially enjoys her freedom at Turpentine Creek Wildlife Refuge.
More about JJ: As is common with African Servals, JJ prefers to keep humans out of her territory and generally converses through hissing. JJ is
known to enjoy napping on her fire hose bench, playing on the ladder in her habitat and will always investigate new things and toys.
