Rescue Story: Turpentine Creek was contacted by a man from Oklahoma who had nine tigers and two bears in need of homes. He was facing

foreclosure and was ordered to be off the property by November 1st. The two bears, Bam Bam, a two year old grizzly bear, and Thunder, a one year

old black bear were housed inside a large barn where there were eight 10’x 20’ identical cages; all well-constructed and clean, but still very much inadequate for these animals.  . Bam Bam moved into a habitat in the fall of 2013.

More about Bam Bam: Bam Bam is considered “The Ham” of the Refuge because of his love of attention from staff, interns, and guests alike! His

favorite activities include his own version of “bear yoga” as well as showing off his balancing skills while he spins and twirls around large branches!

Bam Bam will also get excited when he forages for his scatter fed diet throughout the habitat. His habitat has a custom build in-ground pool with a

waterfall which he spends a good portion of each day swimming in during warmer months.
