Rescue Story: In April 2024, Wildcare Foundation, a wildlife rehabilitation facility
in Oklahoma, called TCWR to rescue a bobcat, Malcolm. The three siblings were taken
by locals who thought their mother abandoned them. This is a common problem with
young wildlife; their mothers are likely out looking for food and have not abandoned
them. The locals brought Malcom to the Wildcare Foundation Oklahoma when two
siblings passed away. Their team tried to rehabilitate Malcom and prepare him for
release into the wild. This included limited human contact, such as blind feeding and
teaching him to hunt live prey. Their team also housed Malcolm with another adult
bobcat, hoping he would learn to behave more like a wild bobcat. Unfortunately,
Malcolm failed every test and was determined tobe unreleaseable. Wildcare staff called
Turpentine Creek to provide him with a permanent home in captivity, where he will
spend the rest of his days living as close as possible to how nature intended.
